The Geek's Raven
[An excerpt, with thanks to Marcus Bales]

Once upon a midnight dreary,
fingers cramped and vision bleary,
System manuals piled high and wasted paper on the floor,
Longing for the warmth of bedsheets,
Still I sat there, doing spreadsheets:
Having reached the bottom line,
I took a floppy from the drawer.
Typing with a steady hand, I then invoked the SAVE command
But got instead a reprimand: it read "Abort, Retry, Ignore".

“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”: A “Christian” Military?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don't_ask,_don't_tell

It's recently been brought to my attention, by means of a cross-posting to the rec.martial-arts group on Google groups, that there exists a growing sub-culture in the U.S. that many people are unaware of. It appears to be related to the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy of the U.S. military for dealing with homosexuality. There are, apparently, a growing number of U.S. military veterans who are conservative, prosperous, married with children, but are rabidly homosexual in their spare time. "Going to the Gym with the guys", is one of the forms in which this behavior manifests itself. Their entire lives are a lie, and they congregate with people living the same lie. There may even be a "requirement" of behavior of this type to obtain certain types of employment.

The current policy was a compromise intended to make it possible for homosexuals to serve in the military as long as they weren't "active homosexuals". In contrast, Israel, the UK, and Switzerland -- all nations with excellent military reputations -- allow homosexuals to openly serve in the military. I am beginning to wonder if the current policy isn't the worst of all possible worlds: encouraging deception, dishonesty and confusion for no good reason. And creating a culture of confusion and dishonesty and possibly violence -- this is the military, after all -- solely to placate the religious right in the United States.

We are all familiar with the religious hypocrites who control and influence the political process in the United States. They use Christianity as a means to control and manipulate the poor and the vulnerable, and exploit the Bible as a tool to acquire power and achieve personal gratification for themselves. What better means to do this, than force a significant portion of the population to lie systematically throughout their lives in order to function and prosper in American Society? Isn't "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" just another form of saying "Jesus loves you as you are": but on HIS terms!!! The two-edged nature of Christian propaganda fits in very well with this whole dishonest situation: pretend that fantasy is reality, and we will reward you. Tell the truth, and you will be punished. What, exactly, is wrong with telling the truth? Is it "Un-Christian"?

I suppose so.
