Trump is saying he doesn't care about the midterms

Actually, what this really means, is that Trump knows he is going to lose the midterms, and is going to lose them very badly indeed. The current 8 point average lead in the generic polling for the Democrats is likely to translate into a 15 lead in the actual voter turnout, because of lack of enthusiasm for Trump, even among his traditional supporters, as we have been seeing in the elections in the last year or so. There are a number of reasons for this, but, probably the most important one, is that Trump has catastrophically overplayed his hand with the Iranians, in the Middle East. Trump has been very effectively rope-a-doped by the Iranians, who are specialists in this, actually, they did exactly the same thing with Saddam Hussein, and with the Shah, for that matter, and with Jimmy Carter, and they've been doing it over and over again with the Israelis, and they did it with George Bush Junior, too, in the aftermath of the second Gulf War, in the guerrilla warfare in Iraq. This has hamstrung the US economy, and led to stagflation, as the Iranians assert full and total control over the Persian Gulf, and much of the world's oil supply. The Iranians have humiliated the US military, and the US president to an unprecedented extent, which even Trump's most fervent supporters cannot really totally ignore. They've turned Donald Trump into Jimmy Carter, or much worse, really. So, Trump is going to get clobbedred in November. The Democrats are going to take 40 or 50 Republican House seats, and perhaps half a dozen or so Senate seats. This will give them solid working majorities in both House and Senate, facing off against an unpopular President.
